Owner/President

Brenna recently joined the team at Service First Fire Sprinkler and focuses on leading the company's Finance and HR departments. Prior to Service First, she worked in Treasury Operations and Internal Audit at a local insurance company. She received her BS Business Finance degree in 2013.

Kyler Bouma

Owner/Vice President

Kyler began his foray into fire protection at Southeast Technical Institute almost 10 years ago and has since grown in the fire protection field from basic design to owner. Kyler has seen many different projects and is well versed in fire protection. He holds a NICET III in Water-Based Systems Layout and an AAS in Architectural Engineering.

Tim Mashek

Division Manager

Timothy Mashek is the Division Manager for Service First. He has been with Service First since 2013 and has made fire sprinkler his career for the last 25 years. He holds multiple credentials and licenses, including a NICET level III, ABPA backflow tester license, and several journeyman installer licenses. Tim has held many positions at SFFS, such as estimator, project manager, foreman, and was the former owner. Tim thoroughly enjoys the fire sprinkler business, enjoys helping and training other employees, and plans on retiring from SFFS after he is completely used up and worthless.

Robert Shaffner

Director of Service and Sales

Bob has an impressive work portfolio and work ethic that has uniquely qualified him as the leader of Service First's Sales and Service division. Bob began his career in the US Army as an administration specialist for 6 years until honorably discharged. He worked for a railroad repair company, as a home builder, a sales manager for a teddy bear manufacturer, a sales and customer service representative for Luverne Truck Equipment, a customer service representative for HSBC, and served as President of the Brand Council Board for HSBC employee relations. During his time at HSBC, he earned several awards due to his excellence in customer relations and sales. He entered into the fire protection world in 2010 as a welder in a sprinkler pipe fab shop. Bob was promoted to Inspection Assistant in 2010 and promoted again in 2012 to Senior Inspection Technician. While in that role, Bob began taking on more of a sales role and helped establish Service First as one of the premier fire sprinkler inspection and service companies in the upper Midwest. In 2018, Bob became the Service/Sales Manager and received his ABPA backflow certification for the purpose of expanding the inspection business to cover testing and repair of backflow devices. Bob has maintained a focus on business development along with inspection best practices and was recently promoted to Director of Sales and Service.

Derek Braden

Service Manager

Since high school, Derek has known that he wanted a hands-on career. Knowing he was on his own for college, he opted for a trade career and interviewed for a position as a plumber with a local company. There were no openings for plumbers at the time, but as fate would have it, there were opportunities in fire sprinkler. Two weeks after graduation, he started his apprenticeship as a fire sprinkler fitter. He completed his apprenticeship in 2011 and received his NICET I for testing and inspections the same year. Derek later obtained his Iowa Fire Sprinkler license followed by the Minnesota Journeyman Sprinkler Certificate. By this time, he had been promoted to foreman and had made a goal to get into the service department within the next ten years. After 12 years of journeyman pipe fitting, he was presented an opportunity to expand his career into the service department. In February 2019, Derek started with Service First Fire Sprinkler. He quickly proved himself to be a true professional pipe fitter with the knowledge required to perform quality work under pressure. In February 2020, he traveled to Aurora, CO where he took his ABPA certification test and was issued his license to inspect and repair all backflow devices. A few months later in August 2020, Derek saw a need to assist with scheduling inspections and repairs and was promoted to Assistant Service Manager. In January 2021, he received his ASSE Backflow Certification for the purpose of testing backflow devices in Minnesota, effectively expanding Service First's service area to include Minnesota. Derek has the ability to inspect and test backflow devices in 3 states (SD, IA, MN) and has Nebraska in his sights. Derek was promoted to Service Manager in February 2021 and remains committed to growth alongside Service First.

Corey Gunderson

DESIGN MANAGER

Corey joined Service First Fire Sprinkler in 2019. He started in the fire protection industry in 2007 and had 3 years with a fire sprinkler consulting firm. Corey worked for over 15 years in manufacturing and production. During his time in the manufacturing industry, he worked as a mechanical drafter producing computer-assisted drawings with drafting software and as a CNC programmer evaluating machining specifications.

He is NICET Level II in Water-Based Systems Layout and earned an AAS degree in Architectural Construction Engineering Technology from Southeast Technical Institute in 2007.

Aaron Mossefin

Estimation Manager

Aaron has worked in fire sprinklers since 2013. He worked as a sprinkler fitter for several years before transitioning to the role of estimator. Aaron is currently attending Eastern Kentucky University in pursuit of his fire science degree.

After graduating from Southeast Technical Institute in 2013, Kate spent several years working a variety of positions in the healthcare field. She joined Service First in 2020 where she focuses on HR, employee education, office efficiency, and tackling whatever surprises the day throws at her.
